Social Media and RedNote Marketing in Carnegie
Is RedNote right for a Carnegie business? 12.7% report Chinese ancestry and 58.2% speak only English at home (ABS 2021). Honest advice, from A$469/month.
Carnegie is about 10 km south-west of our Box Hill office in a straight line, and the Census figures show that it is the least Chinese-speaking of the five suburbs we cover. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you something that does not fit.

Source: ABS, 2021 Census QuickStats, Carnegie (suburbs and localities); Victoria figures from the same table. Percentages are shares of all residents. Ancestry allows up to two answers per person, so ancestries add up to more than 100%. The Census counts where people live, not who visits.
What the numbers say, and what they do not
12.7% of Carnegie residents report Chinese ancestry (2,269 people), roughly double the Victorian share, and 7.4% speak Mandarin at home. That is a real community, but it is the smallest of our five. More Carnegie residents were born in India (9.2%) than in China (6.2%), and 58.2% speak only English at home. Greek (3.9%) and Russian (3.4%) are the next most common languages at home after Mandarin.
So a Carnegie business whose customers all live within a few streets is better served by English-language Instagram first. We run it bilingually if you want both audiences: A$699/month for 10 bilingual posts.
When RedNote does fit Carnegie
RedNote earns its place for businesses that draw customers from outside the suburb, because Chinese-speaking people will travel for the right place and find it by searching in Chinese. Koornang Road, the main shopping and dining strip, and venues people make a trip for fit that pattern. TT Billiards Club Carnegie is one of the client logos on our home page.
The same test applies to any Carnegie business: if most of your Chinese-speaking customers would have to come from Box Hill, Glen Waverley, Clayton or Oakleigh rather than from the next street, RedNote is how they find you. If they would not, spend the budget elsewhere first.
A low-commitment way to test it
If you are unsure, the creator program is the lowest-commitment way to find out: A$299 for 5 creators, a one-off flat fee, with your business providing the experience. Their posts show quickly whether Chinese-speaking customers respond to you. A full RedNote account starts from A$469/month for 10 original notes.
For what these programs have produced on accounts we run, see our east and south-east guide, which covers the east and south-east, Carnegie included.
