RedNote Marketing for Sydney Restaurants and Local Businesses: Chatswood, Burwood, Haymarket, Hurstville and the CBD
How a Sydney restaurant or local shop wins Chinese-speaking customers with RedNote (Xiaohongshu) and Instagram: cold start, blue-V, creator visits and Spotlight ads. From A$469/month.
By Redluck Digital
Short answer. A Sydney restaurant or local shop can win Chinese-speaking customers on RedNote (Xiaohongshu) in four steps: set up a verified business (blue-V) account that people can find by searching, publish steadily in the language your customers use, invite Sydney creators to visit, and put paid Spotlight budget behind the notes that already work. Redluck Digital is a Melbourne RedNote and Instagram agency with clients in Sydney. We run the account from Melbourne at the same prices as in Melbourne: RedNote account management from A$469/month for 10 original notes, Instagram from A$699/month, and a flat A$299 for 5 creators.
This guide is for owners and managers of restaurants, cafes, dessert shops, salons, clinics and retail shops in areas where many customers speak Mandarin or Cantonese, such as Chatswood, Burwood, Haymarket, Hurstville and the CBD. For the general overview of what we do in Sydney, see our RedNote marketing for Sydney businesses guide (a Chinese-language version is at /zh/sydney/).
Why Sydney's Chinese-dense hubs are a RedNote market
Many Chinese-speaking residents, students and visitors in Sydney look for a place to eat, shop or book by searching RedNote, in the way other customers search Google Maps. A search like "悉尼 Chatswood 火锅" or "悉尼 CBD 咖啡" returns notes written by real customers, with photos, prices and opinions. A business with no presence there is simply not in the results.
Competition is also real: in a precinct like Haymarket or Chatswood, a customer choosing dinner can compare many similar venues in one scroll. The business that appears in the search, looks credible and has recent notes from real visitors is the one that gets booked. We do not quote suburb-level population figures here; for the official Census numbers and our estimate of RedNote users in Australia, see our 2026 data report.
Step 1: Account cold start
A new account starts with no followers and no history, so the first weeks are about building the foundation, not chasing views. This is what we set up:
- A name people can search. Brand, category and area together, for example the venue name plus "hotpot" plus "Chatswood". The account name and profile are what appear in search.
- A clear profile. Address, opening hours, signature items and how to book, in Chinese and English where it helps.
- Three kinds of notes. Notes that can be found by searching (local keywords in the title), notes that make people want to visit (the signature dish, the room, the process), and notes that build trust (the owner or chef on camera, where ingredients come from, the story of the venue).
- Your own footage is enough to start. Real photos and short clips from your phone suit the platform. When you want a higher standard, on-site photography and video is available as a per-shoot add-on.
Expect a quiet first month while the foundation goes in. Our first 30 days guide shows what a first month looked like for a Melbourne client, and the general restaurant playbook is in our RedNote restaurant marketing guide.
Step 2: Blue-V business verification
Blue-V is RedNote's official business verification. It matters for two reasons. It shows customers the account is the real business, and it is a prerequisite for advertising on the platform: running commercial promotion from a personal account breaches RedNote's rules, and without blue-V you cannot use Spotlight ads.
For a Sydney business, the application is built on your Australian business registration (ABN or ACN) and a signed authorisation letter, and the review can ask for supplementary documents. Our Melbourne team prepares the documents, submits the application and answers the reviewer in Chinese. The verification fee and review time follow RedNote's current official announcements. The full process is in our blue-V verification guide.
Step 3: Sydney creator visits (A$299 for 5 creators)
For a restaurant or shop that relies on walk-in customers, inviting local creators is usually the fastest way to get new people through the door. Their followers are already watching local venue content.
- Flat fee. A$299 covers 5 RedNote or Instagram creators. There is no per-creator fee.
- You provide the experience. A meal for two, a treatment, a product. That is the only cost on your side.
- We source them in Sydney. We find creators who live in Sydney and suit your venue, brief them, arrange the visit times and follow through until the notes are published.
- Timing. From confirmation to notes appearing usually takes a few weeks.
To give a sense of scale, an eastern-Melbourne cafe we worked with had 22 creators visit over two months against a contracted 20, reaching a combined follower pool of roughly 158,000. Their Instagram posts drew 1,780 likes and 304 comments, with a single post reaching 780 likes. These are Melbourne results, and a Sydney program will differ with the venue, the offer and the creators. We do not promise a number of customers.
Step 4: Spotlight ads aimed at Sydney
Spotlight (聚光) is RedNote's paid promotion platform. Once a verified account has notes that are performing, Spotlight puts budget behind them and lets you choose who sees them, including by region. For a Sydney venue the practical use is to show the best notes to people in Sydney who search or browse local food and shopping terms. Targeting options and ad rules follow the platform's current rules.
The ad budget is separate from our fee and is paid directly to the platform. We set up the ad account, build the campaigns and review the results with you. See how Spotlight ads work for Australian businesses for the detail.
Why a Melbourne team can serve Sydney well
RedNote and Instagram accounts are run online, and almost all the work happens on a screen: planning, writing, publishing, replying to comments and messages, blue-V paperwork and ad management. None of it depends on where our desks are. Here is how it works for Sydney clients:
- Our Melbourne team runs the account, the blue-V verification and the Spotlight ads.
- We source and brief creators in Sydney and follow through to publication, so the content comes from people who actually know your area.
- We can send someone to Sydney for on-site photography and video, at an extra cost, when you want production beyond your own footage.
- The prices are the same as in Melbourne.
- We have clients in Sydney. The published results on our site come from Melbourne clients, as noted above.
The weakness of remote work is on-site detail, so we ask Sydney clients for a short list of signature items, opening hours and anything that changes (menus, events), and we agree how quickly you can send fresh photos.
What it costs
We publish our prices openly. RedNote account management starts from A$469/month for 10 original notes, with topic planning, comment and message handling and an English monthly report. Instagram management starts from A$699/month for 10 posts. Creator programs are a flat A$299 for 5 creators. The blue-V fee follows RedNote's official announcements, and Spotlight budget is paid to the platform. On-site shoots are an extra, per-shoot cost.
If you hold a written quote from another agency for the same service, we offer a Price Match on the monthly service fee where the service content is the same; the terms are in our price-match terms. Full pricing is on our RedNote marketing page, and a cost breakdown is in what RedNote marketing costs in Australia.
Where to start
- If you have no business account, start with blue-V and a steady publishing rhythm.
- If you are already posting, add a creator visit round to bring new customers in.
- When notes are performing, add Spotlight budget to scale them.
The first step is a free look at your current account and materials, and we reply to enquiries within one business day. You can reach us through the RedNote marketing page.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work with restaurants and shops in Sydney, or only Melbourne?
Both. We are based in Malvern East, Melbourne, and we have clients in Sydney. The team runs the account, blue-V verification and Spotlight ads from Melbourne, and sources creators in Sydney.
Is the price different for Sydney?
No. RedNote account management is from A$469/month for 10 original notes, Instagram from A$699/month, and creator visits are a flat A$299 for 5 creators, the same as in Melbourne. On-site shoots, ad budget and the blue-V fee are separate.
Can you come to my venue in Sydney for photos and video?
Yes. We can send someone for on-site photography and video, at an extra cost, agreed per shoot. Many accounts start with the owner's own phone footage.
Do I need blue-V verification to advertise?
Yes. A verified business account is a prerequisite for Spotlight ads. We prepare and submit the application using your ABN or ACN.
What does the A$299 creator package include?
Five RedNote or Instagram creators, chosen by us to suit your venue, briefed and followed through to publication. You provide the experience, such as a meal or a treatment. There is no per-creator fee.
Can you guarantee customers or a number of views?
No. We do not promise results. A new account usually does a few hundred views in its first month while the foundation goes in, and builds from there. We publish real back-end numbers from clients so you can judge for yourself.
Can I target only people in Sydney with ads?
Spotlight lets you choose the region you want to reach, subject to the platform's current rules. We set this up for you and check the results with you.
Do you also manage Instagram?
Yes. Instagram management is from A$699/month for 10 posts, and creator visits work for both platforms.
